Back To Breeding

Posted by admin on February 14, 2012

No picture.  It just wasn't suitable subject matter for the blog. We have entered into the breeding season with our dogs.  We've been to the vet several times doing progesterone testing and other tests that will help us pin point the magic moment.  Yes, you're probably thinking that the dogs might be able to figure this out.

They do pretty well but we add a little technology to help them out.  We put Niles and Jordan together for a date yesterday as she seemed ready.  We watch for flagging of her tail which indicates a female's enthusiasm level.  She had previously only been at half mast but yesterday looked good.  It wasn't.  When a b-i-t-c-h is not ready she will leave no doubt of it in the male's mind.  Niles was quickly ousted and left disappointed.  But those happy hormones must have reached the correct level because today we had success. A 23 minute tie.

We'll try again on Thursday and Saturday.  If they don't tie on those days we will probably do artificial insemination to assure good cover.
